Sailor Asthma

Today we went to the hall to watch a show about asthma. We found out that our pipes can get squeezed and we can't get air when we have asthma.
We  listened to find out we need 6 puffs with an inhaler and to use the spacer if we have a asthma attack and that it takes 6 minutes to work. We liked the puffer fish and the songs.

Life Caravan

Today we went to see Harold at the Life Education caravan. We found out we need kai, water, be safe, aroha, moe, shelter and exercise to be happy.
To be safe we need to wear our seat belts, wear our life jackets and have an adult watching us when we swim. When we cross the road we need to use the crossing and wait for the cars to stop before we go and we need a adult to help us.
We love Harold and he shook our hand with his mouth. We are looking forward to visiting Harold again tomorrow.

oil and water

We conducted an experiment with oil and water today. We found out that the oil kept rising to the top of the water.  We expected it to fizz over when we put the fizzing tablets in but the bubbles just got caught up in the oil and even when we took the lid off it did not overflow.
When we watched a clip about animals being affected by oil spills we felt really sad. We think we need to be really careful with how we treat our environment and do our best to look after it.

library opening

Today we opened our school library. It was celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony, blessing and parade of the children dressed as book characters. Room 6 children came and read with us and we really enjoyed their stories. We hope they come back another day to read with us.

Floating and sinking

We have been learning about floating and sinking. It was exciting predicting and exploring which things would float or sink. We shared our ideas why this happened and came up with some fascinating ideas. We made some boats from tinfoil and had a competition to see which boat could hold the lost marbles. It was a lot of fun. Click onto the floating and sinking link to watch our clip.

Last week we were lucky to have a visit from the "Share the Road" forestry people. We found out that trucks have lots of blind spots and if we don't see the driver in his/her mirror she/he can't see us. It was lots of fun climbing up in the big trucks and looking at what the driver could see. We noticed it was really hard to see in the front because the front of the truck was so big. The men told us about when the trucks turned the corners we needed to be careful because sometimes the truck can use more road than a car when it turns. It was a very exciting day. Thank you to the men and the lady truck driver who came to visit our school. We hope you enjoyed your day too!

Matariki Fun

We have had a busy term in Room 17 and have worked hard to complete our Matariki poems. We have been learning ways Matariki is celebrated and used this as inspiration for our writing. Our school had a fabulous Matariki Day event that lasted for 2 days. We had choices for the activities and most of Room 17 children chose for the games, gardening or art opinions. It was a very enjoyable two days and the children loved performing kapa haka and presenting what they had been working on during our final assembly before our Matariki Feast.

Room 16 and 17 working on graphs collaboratively

Let's do some Maths!
Room 16 and Room 17 have been working together and learning about data and graphs. Together we made a pictograph of our favourite pets. We found out that the most liked pet was a fish and the least liked was a frog. Some of us also made predictions that were correct!
