In math's today we were learning about how shapes can make things.
We were practicing our cutting skills and trying to work as a team to complete our mission.
We put on our math's eyes to see what we noticed about two pictures that Whaea Jaime put on the board.
There we circles and triangles some in orange yellow red and white. We found a new shape. A semi circle.
We made up some basic fact equations using the shapes and colors, Like 2 red circles and 2 orange circles make 4 circles all together (2+2=4). 6 white triangles and 6 yellow triangles make 12 triangles.
Now for the fun part.
First we cut out the shapes
Next we arranged our shapes to match our dragon picture.
Then we glued them in place.
Our mission was to see which group could get their dragon as close to the example as possible. The Judge of our pictures was Whaea Deb.
And this group here had some teeth missing and we thought maybe it was a baby dragon.
It was decided that the winning team was Skyla and Liliani.
This was a lot of fun. It was a very engaging activity and encouraged the groups to organize who would do what and how it would be done.
We are learning to build resilience through group work and this was definitely a challenge.
Kia whawhai tonu matou.
Which one do you like the most????????
Kia ora Tamariki ma. I liked all of the dragons because I can see how hard each of you worked to get all of the shapes in the right places 😁 well done!
ReplyDeleteThat was so impressive ALL mahi was truly well done. Well done Skylar and Liliani.
ReplyDeleteWow Room 17! It looks like you had great fun learning about shapes and using them to make dragons. I love that each group managed to use the same shapes but create different looking dragons. Very creative. Come and check out Room 5's blog sometime to see what we have been up to http://kpsroom5and6.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteGreat work!
Kia ora Nga Rau Rito! What awesome dragons, I tried very hard to pick my favourite but I couldn't because they are all so cool! I like that you have used lots of shapes that you cut out yourselves, and it also looks like you have worked very well together to build your dragons. Well done on building your resilience together. From Whaea Kylie :)
